Linux Conference Australia 2009 – Hobart

I went to Hobart for a week from the 18th to the 24th of Jan 2009. That was the week of Linux Conference Australia (LCA). It was my first time for the LCA, as Chris went for work. So I got to do a bit of traveling on my own before the Partners’ Program started. I enjoyed traveling alone. It was kinda good, you got to do stuff that you want and don’t need to worry about others. Since I have been to Hobart before so I knew my way around… as long as I have a map, I know I will be fine.

Chris and I stayed at the hotel, Wrest Point. However, most of Chris’ friends stayed in the Uni campus. So either we gone up to the campus or they came down to the hotel. I must tell you, the campus is right at the top of the hill… man, it was very tiring to walk up… so steep…

I gotta hang around with all guys(geeks) for the whole one week, except in the Partners Program. I reckon I was pretty geeky by the end of it. Although I have no idea what they all talked about. I sometimes toned out, sometimes just read my book… sometimes just concentrating drink my beer or Chris’.

The Partner Program was pretty good, I got to join other girlfriends; wives; husband or kids of the geeks. Yes, there is one man in our program, which was pretty cool… After all, geek is not only used by men.

I bet everyone knows about Bill Gate, but not many knows about Linus Torvalds. Well, it was my first time to hear this name actually at the conference. He is the guy who started to write Linux. And he was at the conference, kinda blend in among the geeks… he’s not a speaker nor organisor, he just hanging around… and listened to the talks… I mean, that’s pretty cool to see such an important person in IT industry playing pool next to your pool table, and share the finger food from the same plate at the Google night.

Hobart has a best weather of the week in Australia, Sydney was 40 degrees and Melbourn was 41 while Hobart is 22, it was perfect! I had one of the best Grilled Blue Eye for lunch on the last day. That made my trip even better! Anyway, I have uploaded some picture in my Facebook, please feel free to check out!

2009 means next step of my life

5 January, 2009 in Living life 生活傳記 | Comments (1)

Today is the first Monday of the new year, many Australian are now back at work. And for me, I got to think about my missions and how my path going to go in the new year. 2009 is pretty big for me.

There will be a new step of my life waiting for me in May. I will be someone’s Mrs. and I know it is the right time. It is funny to think back when you were a little girl, you tried to plan things ahead, saying something like, “I want to get married in 26 and have babies in 28.” But of course life doesn’t usually happened the way you wanted. But I think my life is going pretty well except there is a few years delay. I got two big missions in 2009 – 2 weddings. It is a nightmare. But I’m enjoying it, I’m not stressing… everything just seems like fell into places for me without the panicking. There are only few things that need to be organised and decided on, like the cake, the flowers, the decorations, the food, the photographer, the wedding registry, sending out the invitation and blah blah blah… hang on, there are still a lot to do, not just a few… hmm.. but at least I already got my main stuff ready, such as my bridal gown, evening dress, bridesmaids’ dresses, invitations are on their way to Australia, venue booked, half way through guest list… Ok, I will try to tell myself not to be too stressed… calm, calm calm….

Chris and I are probably will get our new car pretty soon… looking forward to it! I think that’s one of my other important tasks to do… a house? May be I will leave it in 2010 or 2011… working up bits by bits… loving every single part of it. I believe marriage life is just one simple thing: To grow and build our life together… I don’t want Chris to buy a car while I was in overseas, why? Because I want to be able to share the experience with him. Going through the details with him, finding a car that we both like, it is OUR car, not HIS car. I know Chris feels the same way too…

2009 is one of the most important years in my life. I will cherish every day and live the most of the rest of the 360 days!!!

Cheers!
